3 New Books for Apple users

Ben, I have to disagree on the first one. I usually love the Real World books, but this one's going back.

What was it about this book you didn't like? I'm going on what an out of state buddy told me about it, he really liked it. So I haven't actually seen it. Tell me more about your experience with it.

OK, and I have to say, I wanted and expected to like it.

First, it's very basic stuff...anyone using FCP is likely to know this kind of material. He devotes pages to the value of deleting unneeded files from your desktop, backing up all your stuff, cleaning your keyboard. Not insights that had me taking lots of notes!

Second, some of the recommendations have to be taken with huge grains of salt, like saying it's almost never worthwhile to repair your permissions. Even Apple would argue with that one.

It's clearly for beginners, but beginners who, somehow, would know enough to question his opinions and make informed choices.

I like Ted Landau's phonebook-size maint/repair books much better.
