3 months after a HEART ATTACK

3 months ago I had a heart attack, BEST DAMN THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME! I've been diabetic for at least the last 10 years and not treating it. When I first started getting symptoms it was just peeing more often than normal and losing weight no matter how much I ate... it was pretty awesome actually LOL.
Well the symptoms kept getting worse and the last couple years have been really rough on me. I had tried and tried but just couldn't get myself healthier. I just love food way too much :(
I had been praying and meditating on being healthy and knew that eventually I would get what I desired, that's just the way I believe things work. I just didn't know that my prayers would be answered in the form of a heart attack. In the ICU I decided that I wanted to get my health back naturally, I decided to go vegan and exercise as much as possible. I had 5 doctors including 2 cardiologists tell me if I didn't get further invasive treatment that I would drop dead soon and they told my wife to get things in order for me and plan my funeral. Well I was discharged straight from the ICU after 5 days. The first night home I had to go to Wal-Mart to get my prescriptions and my new diabetic supplies and boy I thought I was gonna drop dead from walking. I was sure any moment that I could have the big one. What a horrible and scary time.
Well 3 months later I have stuck to being a strict vegan and exercising at least 6 days a week. I have lost 45 pounds but that doesn't come close to reflecting how much fat I've lost when you consider how much muscle mass I've added and toned up. My pant size is down 8 inches! And I haven’t even begun to do ab/core exercises yet, just crap loads of cardio and some weights every other day.
1 month after my heart attack I went to a lifestyle center to further my treatment. They focus on medically supervised natural healing therapies and remedies. I already was doing most of what they were saying and knew 70% of the info but the time I spent with them was invaluable. First off they convinced me to get off all my diabetic and heart meds and showed me how to control my blood sugar and blood pressure naturally. It's awesome because 5 weeks AFTER a heart attack I'm off of all my meds! Secondly they inspired me personally with their sincerity and dedication. This is a Seventh Day Adventist Christian program and I grew up S.D.A. but I really don't agree with a lot of their dogmatic views on things and just consider myself a regular old generic Christian. Although these guys are HARDCORE S.D.A. and I'm not too keen on that, they are the single most beautiful and loving group of people I have ever come across. I consider the friends I've made there family and I miss them dearly. I was lucky enough to have my T1i with me and took some video while I was there. I didn't have a tripod or a lens with IS, so it's pretty shaky, sorry... but I hope you get past that and enjoy, I would really like to share those moments with you.

It's great to hear that you really took advantage of the situation! now keep the good habits and enjoy your life! I'm sure that you feel awesome!

The strides made on modern medicine is incredible when it comes to heart complications. Eat right, walk each day, live life!

I'm glad your fine pal, I'm sorry it took something so severe to help you make things change. I can understand being scared and having or using that as the motivation to change your life. It's people like you that we can look up to, and all in all - you help us change our lives. Keep on top of it bud', here's hoping you've seen the last of them! Congrats!

Thank you guys sooooo much for the positive vibes and wishes! I don't think my life would have worked out for the best any other way. I took the heart attack as an answer to my desire for change and have held on to that. It only took me about 3 weeks of being vegan until the desire for animal products was purged from my psyche. I still love food but have learned to cook and crave healthier things. Just as important, I have learned to control how much I eat. One of the most important things I have learned is that we do not eat out of hunger but out of addiction. Our need for convenience and our lazy lifestyles have weaponized our appetites against us. Food has become the greatest threat to our physical, mental and emotional health. My desire is for all of us is to be happy and healthy, and diet and exercise are a huge part of that. Believe me there's still a big part of me that wishes it wasn't, but it is. In the end, food is a very poor substitute for happiness and there is ABSOLUTELY NO substitute for health.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and the well being of you and your loved ones :)
