3 lcd monitors hookup possible with Vegas ?

I currently work with a 2 lcd monitor setup. Can i expand to 3 LCD panels so i can have extra workspace ? Mostly looking at using the 3rd one as a purely preview monitor. I guess this is dependent on the graphics card. Mine has 2 dvi outs and the nvidia driver lets u specify to span 2 monitors. Are there cards with 3 dvi outputs ? Anyone using such a setup ? Thanks.

If you want it for preview, you need a decent tv or preview monitor and a good firewire D/A converter. 3rd monitor done! Vegas will def do that.

Dan > I know the D/A , otherwise known as route through Cam (which acts as the convertor). Im talking an lcd monitor. Not a preview monitor. I need workspace. Not exclusively for previewing. Im surprised isnt anyone here using 3 lcd monitors to work with their systems ?

I use a Canopus D/A converter rather than my cam. Stays connected all the time and works great.

The only other thing I can think of is to use something like this. Just use this along with extended desktop in Windows and you can have 3 monitors. I guess in theory you could buy 2 and have 4 monitors, assuming you could find a video card that would support a resolution that is basically as wide as two monitors, so it might be turning into a pricey venture.

My next upgrade is going to be a 32" or 37" LCD tv. That should give me plenty of space when set to a really high resolution. :)

Thats an expensive option for just 2 monitors. I currently run 2 lcd monitors with the same stretched desktop option using an Nvidia card that gives two dvi outs. Then the nvidia tab itself allows you to configure dual mode or stretch mode etc. All within a $80 card. I was just looking at some card which gives you one more dvi out. And its so damn tough to check out onthe Nvidia site. Its so complexly put together.

Thanks David. I didnt know i could use 2 at a time. But will it span the desktop over all 4 (or 3) monitors ? I currently run 2 monitors A + B out of one card, but ill be in a soup if the second card only had the ability to again repeat A + B. Unless ofcourse the second Nvidia is able to recognize the first one and take up from there. I hope u understand what i mean.

David > Im at the moment using an Nvidia Card with dual head out to 2 lcd monitors. The orginal Dsub from the motherboard is free. Can the 3rd lcd be hooked up to that one ? Will this work ?

Doubtful. Even if Windows recognized the third screen, you wouldn't be able to configure it with the Nvidia drivers.

I'm currently using 2 cards for 3 monitors -- it will support a 4th if I would desire to do so. Works fine.

Have you looked at any of the Matrox cards, I tend to remember that they had a triple head graphics card, it may have been the P750 or something in that range.

But those matroz things are expensive solutions. Cosidering a $90 nvidia graphics card can give you 2 monitor support ? And we dont need higher end graphics cards because Video Editing hardly uses the graphics card at all.

Topcat > does vegas remember the settings of which windows stay on which monitors ? I mean when we use the ALT+D+number key choise to save window docking prefs. I would actually love hitting a view setting key and having all the color correctional/fx tools move to the first monitor leaving the timeline exclusively across the 2nd and 3rd monitors with the preview window always staying on the 4th LCD. Makes me feel euphoric !

What video card do you have currently?

If you r card supports SLI and your Motherboard does too then make sure and get the same card so you can hook them up and while Vegas or most likely even Magic Bullet wouldn't benefit from this you might like what happens to your video games :D

example: 2 x 7600GT for $90 shipped each = $170 shipped = 4 DVI ports = quite a bit of gaming power

Thanks again David.

USLatin > Im not sure what my motherboard suports. Im not much of a hardware freak. Getting to learn the strings now only. Unfortunately i never play video games. Thankgod. Thats one nasty addiction :) . I think i run the same card your mentioning. I will anyway get the same type of card. I dont mail order, since i have a peripheral dealer 2 miles from home, I give him a call and the guy drops in and fixes it up in an hour or so. So if the card doesnt work they will immediately replace it with whichever model works. ;) Neat huh.
