hi guys, I am going to build a new editing machine for work with ppro and ae these are the specs.

asus dual opteron k8n-dl mainboard

2 opteron dual core 260 cpu's

2 gb pc3200

2 250 sata in raid 0, 1 500 backup drive

my question is on which video card to buy, I want to run dual monitors plus an ntsc monitor, does anyone have suggestions.

thanks in advance

Is this for SD, HD or both? You have a lot of chioces for SD but for HD I have looked at two good cards - the nVidia Quadro FX540 gives you an analog component HD out in real time and the Matrox Parhelia.

I believe both cards will give you dual monitors with an SD NTSC output. However, I think only the Parhelia has dual monitors with conponent HD out.

I am using the FX540 with the Dell 24" flat panel [which I recomend over dual monitors. Plenty of screen realestate] and a 42" plasma. I chose the FX540 over the Matrox because I also do 3D with SoftImage XSI and it has decent OpenGL performance [game performance is good too]. If I didn't require that then I might have gone with the Matrox.

I use the Nvidia Quadro FX for the two monitors, but to get signal on an NTSC montior you will need to convert the firewire feed from your computer to RCA to go into a regular TV monitor. I use the Canopus ADVC-100 (it's since been redesigned and changed to the ADVC-110: http://www.canopus.com/products/ADVC110/index.php )

The best thing with the Canopus box is that you can capture analog or output from your computer to analog. I'd be lost without it. I can instantly preview an output of exactly how the image will look on a TV while I'm working.

The quadro FX540 has a breakout box that allows you to capture and playback analog HD. It laso has an SVHS port but I don't use it. If you purchased this card it would not be necessary to purchase the ADVC-110.
