3 axis burshless gimbal.... and so it begins!

Hey everyone!

I been pondering over purchasing a gimbal like the DJI Ronin, Came-TV 7800, and other brands out there but have a hug issue with this, why pay for something I can build for far cheaper? At least that's what I thought until I went into the hobby store and talked to a drone operator/gimbal maker!

I figured this forum would be the best place to talk to all of you creative and inventive folks about gimbals and if you see it worth it. I will list the pros of why I think making my own gimbal is a great idea then you can smack me around with reality until it sets in.

The reasons are:
I will know how to repair my gimbal and have a much better understanding if something goes wrong.
Costs
Customize it to my needs such as field monitor, batters, servo follow focus, cage mount, lights, and ability to attach to a future DIY octocopter.
The process of making one duh!
Quality, aside the electronics I do not make.

Cons:
Time
Time
Time

If anyone has experience, resources, or lives in the Pacific NW and interested in making a gimbal let me know! I am just starting to get my bearings on this and all the work/programming/tinkering that will be involved if I pull the trigger on this project.

I forgot to add this will be for a Rokinon size lens and a GH4 but I wouldnt mind having it modular in case I want to explore different options!
