Yay! So I went to Jerry Azumah's (former Chicago Bear) charity poker tournament event last night. Lots of celebrities, a few Chicago Bears (Lance Briggs, Tommie Harris, Rasheed Davis and a few others). It was a $350 buy-in, and although I was pretty sure I'd lose, I figured it would be fun to play against some World Series of Poker professionals that were going to be there -- not to mention, obviously, the Bears. And it was an open bar and food and good music, etc, so I knew it would be a good time.
As always with this kind of thing there were tons of awkward looking guys and porn star looking women (the chicks reminded me of, like, some kind of parasite -- like their eyes were INTENSE. Just scary. I felt bad for all the famous sports guys there, I kept seeing them having to dodge these women, saying that they had to get home, etc.) I'm pretty sure every guy who was there was a millionaire except for me. There were at least three dudes who I recognized as rappers but for the life of me I couldn't tell you who they were. But hey, I made lots of friends so that's cool. By the end of the night people who I don't remember their names were all shouting to me from across the room, cheering for me. One of them might have been Lil' Wayne -- who's the one who is really short with dark glasses and long dreads? It wasn't that Crunk guy. Anyway, just a bizarre but chill experience.
But yeah, during the night I ended up taking out two WSOP professionals and, funny enough, Richard Roeper! lol And at the end when they're giving me all these bags and prizes and stuff they give me this book about poker and, no sh%$ it was friggin written by Richard Roeper! LOL I'm like, "Well, I won't be reading THAT. I totally crushed that guy."
It was so much fun, though. And I totally called the guy who was going to take first place. When he came over to the table, I just knew and I told the table "That guy is going to win." But honestly, when it got down to just the two of us we had already both won a seat at the World Series of Poker Circuit Tournament and tons of prizes and stuff (I ended up with the $3,000 buy-in voucher and he got the $5,000 as the grand prize, so 1 million and 2.5 million games), we didn't really care, we were just having a good time.
What's hilarious, though, is that I've only ever played poker in a basement or garage with friends, ya know? I mean, I always beat everyone when I play, but I didn't know it was this easy to win a huge tournament like this. All I had to do at each table was set up at least one person to get knocked out. Like...that's it. You don't have to "win" anything, you just have to make other people kill one another off amd once in awhile serve a little sweet justice yourself. Out of about 200 people I only had to personally knock out something like 6 people in total.
So silly that people win millions of dollars doing this.
I'm excited to play at the big event, though.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure I now own the largest bottle of Maker's Mark in existence. And I have no voice left. lol
Good times. Never won anything before.
