Pug Life
1st off, no time for a video, sorry. Maybe I'll revisit and bump this later.
Says I came on DVXuser in Dec 2005. I'm just thinking back to how I got here in the first place. I bought a DVX in November of that year and was looking for some technical info. (like what does this red X mean?) I think I was *scared"* to use 24p at first. Didn't help that the old guard, ie my senior co-workers, poo-pooed 24 frames a second. "It doesn't look right". Whatever.
So anyways, flash forward to summer of 2010. After some soul searching and number crunching, I made the descision to leave my safe, salaried job as a commerical producer. You see, we have a son who is almost two now, and my wife and I were not happy with him in daycare. I figure, you only go around once, so I would like to spend some time with him and be a stay-at-home dad. I wasn't "going anywhere" in that job, and for damn sure I wasn't learning anything new. So off I went. Currently, I'm not getting rich, but I am happy.
And a few silver linings to this story: The company I was working for has a 24 hour news channel. So now, I'm working freelance for them writing & producing in the newsroom. It's nice to occasionally be around adults when you spend most of your waking moments taking care of a toddler. And I also do my own thing video-wise, since I spent the last 6 years acquiring gear. I work with the clients I want to work with and make the commercials and videos I want to make.
I don't think I ever met anyone in real life on this board. (One dude at a Connecticut user group meeting once…He had a brand new shiny HVX. Whoa, it's like the DVX but…bigger.) But I'd like to thank everyone whom I've spoken with on the boards and via PM. zaza, m.spencer, jhoe, rodney, johnny cola. So many technical questions have been answered by generous people. My gear purchases have been dead-on thanks to the honest feedback & reviews I see on this board. I also enjoy reading Hollywood inside info from Sadmax, MattinSTL's wacky commentaries and Batutta's movie reviews (although by my count the only films he ever enjoyed were There Will Be Blood and Up…) :grin:
I'm not a filmmaker. I'm not in the industry. I'm a hobbyist at best when it comes to narrative work. But I've picked up so much great info from this site that I use in my commercials, promo vids & such. I like where things are right now technology-wise. I'm happy as a pig in s**t to shoot my little videos with a t2i and dump them into FCP for the edit. (I just waiting for Canon to make their version of the AF100 since my $$ is invested in Canon glass. C'mon you hard-ons, get with the program!)
rogar-Angry(DBG):
Thanks and see you around. Peace and love, peace and love!
