Which is do you prefer for delivering an informational/promotional video? I think filming actual talent is best for this kind of video despite the cost involved. What do you guys think?
2D animation vs. 2D live-action video
VIDEO
positives:
- actual people and real life as opposed to fictitious characters to establish trust with the audience;
- people can identify with real life characters more easily;
- flexible in terms of script and creative modifications during the shoot.
negatives:
- talent performances can be too contrived or forced;
- live-action will need costly cgi or vfx to expand on its creativity;
- potential studio usage and location insurances would also be expensive;
- post-production begins after production
- changes will require a re-shoot, re-record, re-edit. (incremental cost)
ANIMATION
positives:
- creative freedom happens in the beginning stage and are boundless;
- easy to explain complex stories or information;
- more cost effective in production as editing can begin before vo is recorded.

- less realistic and loses it trust value
- time-consuming developing multiple characters and style
- changes will require a re-illustration, re-record, re-edit. (incremental cost)
