29.97 timeline back to 23.98?

I shot a short film at 24PA and imported the footage as low rez photo JPEG so I could save space on my drive. I realized well into the project that I was editing on a 29.97 timeline. Now I want to start recapturing my footage and Media Manager is (rightly) telling me that recapturing with pulldown for a 23.98 timeline will not work, since the edit was done at 29.97. So here's my dilemma: Is there anyway to "conform" this 29.97 timeline to 23.98, so I can recapture the way I want to? Or, can I just go ahead and recapture without the pulldown, keep the timeline at 29.97, export the entire film, then drop the QuickTime into Cinema Tools and make it 23.98? Would that work? Any other ideas? The final output is intended for DVDs to be submitted to film festivals. It most probably won't end up on broadcast so I'm thinking 29.97 is undesirable, no?

What I would do is take each raw clip into Cinema Tools and do the reverse telecine. Once that's done, I'd change the timeline in FCP to 23.98. You should be fine. I've done this on a project and everything worked well. I don't remember if I had to reconnect the files or not, but that's not a big deal.

I had originally captured directly to and external capture device and while I shot at 24PA, since I didn't "capture" the clips into FCP removing the advance pulldown I just went ahead and edited it 29.97. Recently (a few months back), I went in and did the reverse telecine on the original clips, and changed my sequence settings. It worked like a charm.

Honestly- I'd just go ahead and recapture at 29.97. Unless you're going out to film you probably won't find the tradeoff between the amount of work you're in for and the resulting difference in image quality. You would do best capturing at 29,97 anyway and then trying the remove advance pulldown tool on your clips. Then cut and paste your edit into a new sequence already set at 23.98.

Thank you, Blaine and Noah. I will give it a shot and let you know how it worked out. Here's another weird thing that I've encountered. When capturing the original clips I checked the boxes next to the Description, Scene, Angle, etc., and my captured clips ended up with ridiculously long names like "INT. Karen's Townhouse_3_12/1_Birdseye Casey. Karen's Townhouse_3_12/1_Birdseye Casey." Is that because I checked those boxes? Should I be concerned that my file names are so long, and if so, is there something easy I can do to shorten them without having to reconnect all the media?

Noah, your 24P Workflow video is awesome, by the way.
