I know it's a common problem, but i couldn't find an answer in the search. I realise that i acdidently shot some footage at 29.97 , and i'm trying to add it to footage that's shot at 23.98 and edited on a 23.98 timeline. Any advice would be great.

For starters, you might want to state what editor you are using so we don't have to guess. I know it's not Edius, because it has no problem mixing formats and framerates.

this is the fcp board

Of course your other option is to add 3.2 cadence to the 24 material and cut the 30 in on a 29.97 sequence.

Thanks guys, I'm going to start with the first option and see how this Standards Converter works

Another Option:
I've had some success using Compressor to convert the 29.97 clips to 23.98.
Put the clips in a sequence then export using Compressor. In the "setting" column go to "Advanced Format Conversions"; select "DVCPROHD 720p24". This will create a new clip that's a higher res but at 23.98. It will come into the 23.98 timeline, but has to be rendered in order to play.
b.t.w. You can get great jaggy free stills from your 60i footage this way as well.

Well I'm no Compressor expert, but this does work. The original file was 720 x 480 @ 29.97 and the result after conversion is 960 x 720 @ 23.98. I like the idea of uprez to hopefully retain as much quality as possible in the frame rate conversion. There are other conversion options, I just chose DVCPROHD 720p24 cause it seemed like a good idea, and it did what I wanted. I haven't made any qualityy comparisons to the other methods described.
