25p timeline in premier pro 2 ? i need help !

stop me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the rendering codec you mentioned in the screen capture just refer to how the video footage is rendered for preview while your working in premiere. When exporting you use completely different settings and options, so these settings you're referring to wouldn't affect the final size of the project, just the rendered preview files? I think this is right, but i could be wrong.

so the rendering codec would only affect the files you preview while working. Once you export you can use 'uncompressed' and yes the files will be large, but this will be your master copy. You could try exporting using a DV AVI file which would save a bit of room? i'm sure i'm missing something here though, does that sound right?

Yes capture HDV using the PAL preset. i understand 100% :) I edit in an HD timeline so I'll have an HD version of my project for future Bluray/HDDVD delivery so you use that file that u have just created, and open a new HD project and import the recent captured footage. I also open the same timeline in an SD timeline for DVD so you use that file that u have just created, and open a new SD project and import the recent captured footage, so you can export it as SD You can export from an HD timeline, but it won't look good but will the file size still be high ?. Best results are achieved by the method I stated above. i'm very eager to try it out and will let you know how it goes

Give it a quick test and compare the two. i will and cant wait By comparison, Sony Vegas has no trouble downconverting HD to SD really? you make it sound easy with vegas, what version of vegas can do this or what version are you using ? . I like the way Premiere handles HDV footage, but much prefer Vegas for it's exporting, so I utilize both programs. so what do you use first, wich to capture, wich to export ect... ?

sorry for all the questions but i just want to get this right, as i will be getting my HV20 in a week ( put 50% deposit down 2 days ago ) and want to know how to do this PROPERLY :)

I use a free program called HDVsplit, it allows me to capture my footage using scene detection. I set it to capture, let it go, and I'll end it up with a bunch of m2t files. http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm I then edit in an HD timeline.

You can import an entire project into a new project. I import my HD project, into the SD one. All of my original edits, and effects, are preserved. The only reason this is necessary is because Premiere stinks at converting HD to SD.
but will the file size still be high ?
Not if you save another mpeg-2, simliliar to the one you captured. Although this is a lossy format. You can save an HD file from the HD timeline, the problem occurs with trying to export an SD file from the HD timeline.
really? you make it sound easy with vegas, what version of vegas can do this or what version are you using ?
Vegas 7d. It is easy with Vegas. You can export to mpeg-2 for DVD right from your HD timeline and it looks great. Vegas also has an option to export a cineform avi for backing up an HD project. Pretty much all the exports from Vegas look better than Premiere. But Vegas chokes on the HD footage, and Premiere doesn't. So I edit in Premiere, then I use a free framserver that allows me to export from Premiere's timeline with another program. http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/
I think that covers it.

wow so if i captured all the HD footage with pp2.0 ( evan if the file is large ) i can frameserve that to sony vegas, and just set the output file to PAD dv, and turn the fields to no feild or progressive, export ( from vegas) and bang i have a 25p PAL DV file made from a HDV file... then delete the large HDV file (from pp2.0) and keep the PAL DV file sony created? seems almost too easy.

My brother has sony vegas 7 I think, So mayeb this frameserve thing you mantioned could be really good as i could captuer the file in HDVp, frameserve it to vegas 7 and export it as pal DVp. Keep the pal DVp file and delete the massive HDVp file... if you were here i would hand you a beer !!!! but reply to i know this is right, thanks
