25P in United States, Lighting advice?

I will be shooting interviews indoors for delivery at 25fps in the USA. I plan on turning off the room lights and lighting it myself. I have several Lowel Pro Tungsten lights (Rifa, Pro, Omni, etc) to avoid risk of flourescent flicker.
Is there anything else I need to be cautious of to avoid flicker? Obvoiously my camera can switch to PAL 50hz frequency 25p/50p but I don't want to mess anything up since this is new territory for me. Any advice is appreciated
 
Thank you, Liam. Just to make sure I understand. Shoot at 25P at 1/60 shutter. The main thing is keeping the shutter so it plays nicely with the Amercan 60hz environment (hence 1/60).
 
Yes, that shoud work. I shoot 24p and 60p in 50Hz land, and it's always fine as long as I stick to 1/50s and 1/100s respectively.
 
you won't have a setting to shoot 25p @ 60 - it's 50 and if you're turning off the room lights it shouldn't matter what you shoot in
 
New fluorescents hardly ever exhibit any visible flicker, they all have electronic ballasts driving the lamps at several kilohertz. You have to watch out with older T12 fixtures, since they'll often have older magnetic ballasts, but as stated above the right shutter speed takes care of everything.

Yes, flicker is down to the shutter and and the mains frequency. Your base rate, i.e. 25p, has nothing to do with it.

All my cameras can shoot 1/60th at 25p.
 
I set the frame rate at 25P and it did allow me to change the shutter to 1/60. Shot some test footage under tungsten lights and it seems ok. :)

So if I were shooting whatever frame rate I needed in 50hz land, I would just need to set my shutter to a corresponding setting such as 1/25 1/50 1/100 etc.... That's good to know too.
 
had a PAL shoot in the US not too long ago , available light at a hotel, with an EX1. noticed every once in a while a flicker through the whole image resembling a scan line when shooting a computer monitor. very slow, only occasionally. had shutter OFF. should i have had it on 1/50?

Adjust your cameras clear scan or change the monitors scan rate.

It was probably an LED downlight. They can flicker like mad.
 
sorry if i was unclear. i wasnt shooting monitors, im saying shooting anywhere in the hotel, throughout the day, i would see that occasional flicker. especially strange since the main lobby area is almost all glass ceiling so daylight was main source there...
