25 Cinematic Cliches

I just think it sets a bad precedent. Why can't GOOD actresses come first before pretty AVERAGE ones? Now it is such a cliche, that actresses know that they have to LOOK hot to get a role, while their actual acting ability does not necessarily need to be excellent. If someone plays me, I want the dude to be a great actor, I don't want some brad pitt or keanu reeves (in my case taye diggs or morris chestnut or tyrese) playing me. I'd roll over in my grave at that. Nowadays it is like EXPECTED that actors in lead roles are pretty in some way. That sucks, and is a real cliche i'd like to see stop in movies.

Hey I happen to think Taye Diggs is a pretty good actor. I think both he and Pitt don't get get enough credit because they're good looking. I'd much rather have Diggs play me (I'm a brother too) than the other men you mentioned. And under no circumstances is Cuba Gooding Jr. (the hammiest black actor since Poitier) allowed to play me :)

Jamie Foxx is another good actor who happens to be good looking as well.

Denzel is out simply because he gets all the work already. He's amazing, but let some other guys get the meaty roles.

Maybe Samuel Jackson. But I don't know if he could "lessen his cool", cuz I'm anything but.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. So I'll just say I see where you're coming from. And I understand. But movies are an illusion, no matter how real they try to be. And I guess I don't mind it.

Besides we have a name for great actors who aren't the best looking: We call them "Character Actors" :costumed-smiley-047
