24pn Var.Framrate/MXF workflow? (via raylight)

Anybody working with Vegas+P2(via Raylight plugin) and 24pn variable frame rates?

Vegas (+raylight) won't recognize mxf files shot in variable frame rates without converting them to avi files. If I have a project that has a few vfr shots, do I need to edit the entire project with avi files?

Can I use avi and mxf files in the same Vegas timeline?

Any thoughts appreciated.

thanks

I shot both 60fps AND 24fps in the same little short yesterday.....they both say .mxf on the file extensions. Raylight imported them fine or maybe I am missing something?

The MXF plugin will not remove VFR pulldown, only RayMaker can do that.

thanks mvb,

I've been testing my workflow with vegas and raylight. I've imported mxf files directly into the timeline and it seems to work ok, other than vegas's "media manager" won't recognize VFR mxf files.

I'm shooting a lot of aerial footage and overcranking quite a bit, so this half and half mxf/avi thing is bound to get confusing.

Are there other benefits to converting everything to avi rather than using the straight mxf files? From the tests I did today it seems like it may be a bit more stable workflow.

I've also read on the raylight site that "some users have reported good results with vista". Can anyone verify this? What specifically might be better?

thanks

I'm using vista....everything works fine.

Hey Marcus...I did nothing other than drag the clips onto the timeline. VFR pulldown is not removed on the overcranked stuff......does that present a problem?

This is not a vista answer BUT I have no problem importing over/under cranked footage into the timeline via mxf with Raylight. I don't need to do pulldown at all.
Stunning results everytime...Love Raylight love it.
