24pN and 24pA

Hi
I have a couple of questions concerning 24p and 24pa, i know this topic has been adressed a gazilion times before, but i did some searching and i still have some queries.

When I first started using the DVX, i stuck with 24pN because i was running fcp 3 on my little g3 imac. Resently I upgraded (about friggin time) and got a hold of FCP 5.1, so i decided to give 24pA a shot, since many say it gives slightly smoother results, aside from the 24p DVD capability. So here come the questions.

1. Does editing in a 23.98 timeline make effects and titles run at 24p? I noticed one day using magic bullet that the missfire (dust, scratch, old film effects) i applied to my 24pN footage (shot on the dvx) on a 60i timeline would seem Video-ish, while the footage looked film-ish. I supposed it was because the effects would apply to all the fields at 60i, wich gives video like motion to the Missfire effects, while the images, although running at 60i, emulate 24fps, which looks like film; giving the end result a mismatched look. So, if I where to work on 23.98 timeline with missfire effects, or text, would this not occur? would the filters appear to run at 24fps aswell? (i dont have magic bullet for intel macs so havent been able to test it out).

2. I noticed that 24pa, imported with pulldown removal onto a 23.98 timeline (native 24p), infact does gives slightly smoother motion and less strobing when i vew it in the FCP viewer, DVD, and even when exported to miniDV (with 2:3:2:3 pulldown export), but im not sure i like it all that much, I know i am doing the importing right, I have no interlacing artifacts, no need to render upon import. It just seems slightly too smooth. Maybe im just crazy, or got too used to stroby 24pN, but i kind of liked the slightly more apparent strobing effect (especially when doing handheld zoomed all the way) and it doesent look the same to me when i work with 24pA. Dont exactly know what the question is here, its probably just a question of taste... but any thoughts on this?

3.One more thing, is there a difference in between imported 24pN with reverse telecine aplied, and 24pA with the advanced pulldown removal applied uppon import? Any differences in quality?

Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this long post, any awnsers or comments are aprecciated

1. Yes, and one of the most significant advantages to working on a 24p timeline.

2. Don't know what you mean; 24p Standard has a slightly smoother motion cadence than 24pA. But if you remove the pulldown, and then later export with 2:3 pulldown insertion, you'll end up with the same motion signature as 24p Standard.

3. Yes, the 24p Normal/reverse telecine will have gone through an uncompress/recompress stage, so it won't be quite as pristine as the 24pA stuff.

If you've got a 24p-capable editing program, and you intend to edit your 24p footage in a 24p timeline, you should always use 24pA.

I'm in a jam...I uprezzed a 24PA shot which I set to edit ona 24p( 23.98) timeline..I uprezzed and kept in the letterbox format..when i create a Qt movie from the image sequence I created a 23.98 QT movie and a 29.97QT movie....neither will sync back to my audio..I made Qt movie of all of these, including original file and they are all different lenghts/speeds.........what do I need to do with the audio to make it sync?.............help.
