You have nothing to worry about, it'll work just fine. The only setting you need to do is to choose either the "NTSC DV 24P" preset (for 4:3) or the "NTSC DV Widescreen" preset (for 16:9).
Yep, the program is looking at the footage that's being imported, not where it's coming from. I pop my tapes into a cheap little consumer miniDV camera I bought at Best Buy, for capture. A TON cheaper than a deck, and gives me something light & handy to take on trips if I don't want to lug around the DVX & gear.
Yep. I'm guessing if you got some absolute crap miniDV, it may have poor heads, etc. so that could perhaps effect the quality/transfer, but otherwise any of the $300+ models would do great.
Besides, if you're going to get one, get a descent one that you can use for other purposes as well (recording family events, etc. that you don't want to lug the DVX around for, etc.). The little JVC job I got is actually a pretty cool little camera that I've gotten wet with salt water on more than one occasion & keeps on ticking! Even has a nifty 25x optical zoom, though it'll never replace the shots the DVX can get.
I have one and I just used for rewinding the tape. one time I put my dvx tape on it and watch it on tv ,to me was kind of pore quality , I try it again .
