24pA issue... confusion

So I've got a dilemma. For the longest time I've been digitizing with a preset i made a while back that works with 24pA footage i shoot on my DVX-100b. I was using a DV Walkman to digitize my footage and everything was just peachy. Now I'm using a dcr-trv100 and i get time-code breaks all the time while I'm digitizing. Most of the time in the middle of a scene.

Here is the preset i was using.

This is my capture setting:

What's more perplexing is that when i use THIS capture setup:

i don't get time-code breaks but i must render my footage. Is it the camera?

Your timecode breaks aren't really timecode, but breaks in the cadence. The reason the second works is because it isn't trying to remove the cadence.

Are you trying to capture to your system drive too? That can cause it.

Here are my ABSOLUTES for shooting 24pA:

When filming 24pA:
1) NEVER turn your camera off before stopping the record with the red button
2) NEVER preview your material... end frame detect works most of the time, but if you don't use that it will NEVER work right.
3) NEVER switch scenes with the scene wheel during shooting on one tape - yes, it does happen!!
4) ALWAYS dbl check your scratch folder before you start to capture - it may have reset to your documents folder on your system drive.

I've broken my own rules (This past week actually) and hosed myself on capture. Here's how I fixed it:

Capture the whole thing in DV/NTSC standard 29.97 codec. Load it into the viewer and put in/out points around the camera's start/stop areas or 'scenes'. Move the I/O points away from the first and last frames by 3-5 frames and FILE-EXPORT-QTMOVIE-Current Settings-SelfContained.

Do it for EACH SCENE!!!

Then, re-import them into FCP and select them in the browser TOOLS - Remove Advanced Pulldown. Do them one at a time to make sure you are doing it correctly.

Good luck,

Ill give that a try.

Update:
I captured everything using the default 29.97 preset and turned the first 'scene' into a quick time movie, brought it back into FCP, tried to remove advanced pulldown and got this.

Test - Break in Advanced Pulldown cadence (pattern) found near t.

I don't mean to be flippant, in case there's really no way for you to do it, but I'd say save yourself time and problems by finding ANY other camera/deck to use for capture. If it's an emergency, can't you just use the DVX?

Eh its not really an emergency. Im just excited to get this footage captured. Ill try a different camera.

DVX didnt work either. Im officially stumped. I think Im just gonna bite the bullet and render

Are you 100% sure the material is 24pA? Sometimes the scene file dial gets flicked when the cam goes into or out of the case, etc?

Yup good ol 24pA. Clean tape too. Im using the 'man on fire' scene setting that one of the forum members created. If that makes any difference.

Move the I/O points away from the first and last frames by 3-5 frames and FILE-EXPORT-QTMOVIE-Current Settings-SelfContained.

Did you follow my steps?

It is a MUST do for you at this point. If you are anywhere near the point where you lost cadence you will be hosed. You must do it that way if you want to edit this at 24fps.
