24pA interlaced in timeline playback...

So I captured with 2:3:3:2 pulldown in 29.97, dropped it into my timeline (which I've had set at 23.98, 24, 29.97 and 30 just to cover all my bases), and while playing the clip from the bin is fine, when I put it in the timeline the footage looked interlaced.

Is this because I am watching it played back on a MacBook and not a TV monitor? Because even when I export to a .mov file, it's still interlaced. Using the 'de-interlace' function just makes it look awful. What else could I be doing wrong?

Thanks for the help...

You need to look at on a real monitor via Firewire out. What you see on the desktop is not good for judging things like interlacing as it's an RGB video proxy of your footage. If you captured at 29.97 without pulldown removal, you still have interlaced frames mixed in with 24p as part of the pulldown. I humbly suggest my DVD- helps a lot with all of this stuff. :)

Thanks for the reply - believe me, I'd like nothing more than to pick up a copy of your DVD, but cash is extremely tight at the moment.

I'm actually capturing at 29.97 WITH pulldown removal, so I just don't understand why there are still interlaced frames.

And just to be totally clear, should I be editing on a 23.98 timeline, or a 24 timeline? Or even a 29.97 timeline? Ugh. I want your DVD.

23.98 timeline and there should not be any interlaced frames- but again you cannot accurately judge this without an NTSC monitor connected via firewire. The desktop preview is not accurate.
