24PA Editing issues

I am just starting a documentary that I am hoping to shoot in 24PA on the DVX100A, but I have already run into a problem. I have captured a few of the first shot tapes with the camera into FCP 5, the problem is that some of the tape will come in at 23.98, but some other clips with come in at 29.97?

I am using the capture now to capture the whole tape.

Anyone have any advice on this so that I don't have to use Cinema Tools?
Thanks,
Chris

Open FCP.

Go to FCP Menu and select Audio / video settings

Sequence Preset: should be "DV NTSC 48kHz - 23.98

Capture Preset: should be " DV NTSC 48kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal

Once you have made sure thats OK it should be right.

Also there is a FCP forum here, so check that out.

I'm having this same problem!

When you shoot 24pA you need to make sure you do so carefully... any turning off the camera while running in record will trip up the cadence. Other things to watch out for are reviewing portions of the tape and then trying to find the end... for one reason or another these can cause havoc on the cadence generator.

I suggest two things...

1) Capture any tapes you haven't shot yourself by logging and capturing... avoid camera start/stops.

2) Create subclips from your master clip and use the remove advanced pulldown feature in the TOOLS menu on those subclips.

Also - dbl check to ensure that indeed you shot these clips at 24pA... arrow thru them and look for 4 frames progressive to 1 frame interlaced. If you see 3 frames progressive to 2 frames interlaced then you shot 24p mode and you're screwed unless you can get your hands on cinema tools (why DON'T you have it??).

Good luck,

CaptM
