24pa Direct Disk Capture in FCP

I'm using a DVX100B in 24pA mode. Can I capture directly to a large hard drive (LaCie, 900 Gigs) through "Capture Now" in Final Cut Pro? Previously when I tried this, the capture lasted only a few seconds and I was only able to save a small file. Can a 30 minute shot be done this way? And one last question (sorry). If I can capture direct to disk, does FCP perform the pull down in 24pA mode as it is captured (via Firewire) so that it can be edited at 23.96 with out any other conversion?

Thanks, Paul.

Thanks BenB. I have all those settings but I still seem not to be able to capture direct to the external hard disk. I remeber when I used to use iMovie, the cature could go stright to the HD without the DMX100B capturing to the tape. For FCP, when I have the Log and Capture window open and try to capture to the HD, it gets stuck waiting for the Time Code. If I run the camera manually to record, then press Capture Now, FCP will capture about a second of video thentell me that the capture is complete. I's a nice file but it will t ake a long time to produce my video version of War and Peace. I suspect that I have not set up the capture properly on either the camera (I am able to control it from FCP) or in FCP (the capture window does show the view from the camera live).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Paul

you can capture as a non controllable device, but you won't have any information saved in the file as you would with the normal capture settings.
