I captured an entire hour of video in 24pa with the pull down removal and it worked fine. Put a second 24pa video tape in and captured with same settings. Te second one was captured in 29.97. I don't understand why it would change like that...?
Everything stayed the same. Now that it is captured in 29.97 I am stuck right? I need to recapture? I tried removing the pull down after the fact but it says there is no pull down to remove. I guess I will have to recapture...
Select a clip in bin and do a tools > analyze > clip (?) on it.
Does it think it's 23.98 or 29.97?
If it's 29.97 then you should be able to select it and do a remove advanced pulldown.
All 5 hours of video I captured is in 29.97. I think my sequence settings got fubard. Would the sequence prefs change the capture fps? I now have 5 hours worth of 24pa footage that was captured at 29.97. It wont let me remove pulldown...What can I do? Is there a way to change it to 23.98?
*edit* I tried start fresh and capture a couple pieces of video. Used the following settings:
48khz NTSC with pulldown removal
NTSC NDF
Sequence set to 23.98
After I capture the clip it still captures at 29.97! ACK! What can I do? Do I really need it to be 23.98 if I plan on going to DVD? What is the advantage of the 23.98 over 29.97 when going to DVD?
I am on a tight deadline to get this project finished and this is causing serious headaches...
It the Tool > Remove Advanced Pulldown menu enabled?
If not select the clip in the bin and try the Tool > Remove Advanced Pulldown menu again. If it isn't 24pa it should come up with an alert that says it can't find an advanced pulldown clip. If it truly is 24pa captured at 29.97 it should work. If it does then go through all your clips and make sure to set up your sequence to 23.98
Your sequence settings shouldn't affect the capture settings.
In the future double check your setup and do smaller batches to make sure everything is working correctly.
If you take a clip 'offline' from the bin (hold control key and click on clip in bin, select Make Offline) when you go to capture you have to turn on use currexnt capture settings (and make sure they're correct) By default FCP will recapture the same footage with the same exact settings you originally used so you need ot tell it to ignore what it did before except the timecode. If you had captured audio wrong or something else you'd have to do the same thing.
Do you need to DVD at 24fps?
No, you can do it normal video rates which is what most computer systems do. That works fine if you shoot in 24p and the footage alone.
However with 24pa the footage will have a slight stutter since it has a full duplicate frame so it's better to convert it to real 24fps.
The advantage of 24fps DVD is less disk space on the DVD and allow the DVD to add the 3:2 pulldown on the fly. None of this is critical from an image quality stand point although you coudl compress less if there are less frames per second.
It won't let me remove the ppull down. I went ahead and recaptured everything last night in standard 48khz NTSC and then went ahead and chose remove pull down and it still wont let me remove pull down.
