24pa capture probs....again

I logged everything I have captured, preset for 24PA. When I changed the Capture Preset for NTSC w/pulldown to 23.98, it captures the footage at 23.98, but it looks bad - 4th frame strobing. This is REALLY AGGRAVATING!!!

Did you place this in a 23.98 sequence?
Is your playback pref set to 2:3:2:3 pulldown and is your machine fast enough to do it in real time?

23.98 pulldown sequence...check.

Fast machine...dual 2.0 G5, 2.5GB, 250GB SATA drive...check.

It even plays it stroby in the preview window, before I even put it in a timeline. Checked the tape in the camera, and it says 24PA.

JH - I think you're right. When I changed the preset to 23.98, I started getting the 4th frame strobe effect, even in the preview window.

But, I have some footage that was properly captured a week ago using the default 24PA preset, and in the bin, it says the frame rate is 23.98. Now anything I capture with that preset, even footage that's already properly captured is coming in as 29.97.

I just tried batch capture and I think it's going to work. Thanks for all your help man. On a sidenote, for other people having problems, go into the capture presets, select advanced pulldown, and click edit. in this menu go to bottom and you'll see three boxes that can be checked or unchecked; the middle one says remove advanced pulldown...For some reason this was unchecked on my machine and when I checked on another machine running the same version of FCP 4.5, it was checked and the batch capture worked. Not sure why this would be unchecked (or even an option). If I'm wrong about this box needing to be checked, somebody please correct me. Thanks again Scott.

Need help-I shot on the F6 mode and was capturing in the advanced pull down mode. As I was looking at my footage under item properties it did read that the video rate was 29.97. Someone told me that i did not capture in true 24p mode if it reads that. I took those clips and converted them in cinema tools to 23.98 and now the sound is extremely slow. When i would put this clips in a timeline sequence of 23.98 or 29.97 i was getting orange render bars. If i did capture everything right to begin with, should i still be having orange render bars? Is there a way to convert the 23.98 footage back to 29.97 via cinema tools?

If you use cinema tools you have to use reverse telecine, not conform.
If FCP was set to remove advanced pulldown it should work on 24pa (f6 ) footage IF you start the capture after the camera is running. (avoid starting the capture right at moment of starting)
Also avoid capture now and tiemcode breaks.
Once captured they shoudl show 23.98 in the bin listing.
If not yo ucan try selectign them in the bin and going to Tools -> Remove Pulldown menu.
If that doesn't work something is not correct.

thank you very much for the response. I will follow your suggestions when i get back to my office. Since i did make the mistake of batch conforming, is there a way to reverse that and do the "reverse telecine"?

If you have the orginal capture files you can reprocess them. If you've written overthem I'm not sure. Certainly worth setting to conform back to 29.97 (they may just change the internal flags and not the picture data)
When doing conversions I try to keep the originals.
