24pA Anamorphic to Quicktime?

I shot some test footage in 24pA, anamorphic, to make sure that all of my FCP settings were right for editing it -- wanted to be certain that I could edit it in 16:9 aspect ratio at 24fps.

After a good bit of tweaking, I could both of those goals down. Now I just can't figure out how the heck to export it so that the footage stays in 16:9 and 24fps. (The first is more important than the latter.) I have tried everything I can think of -- I have kept "Current Settings," I have tried to mess with the options, checking the "Anamorphic 16:9" box, etc etc etc...

...still, every time I go to play the Exported file in Quicktime, RealPlayer, etc, it comes out as a 4:3 box. What am I doing wrong?

...But, assuming that the above is true, still I have a question: If I want to output it to DVD, is there any way that I can have it automatically play widescreen on 16:9 televisions and letterboxed on 4:3 televisions?

I've read that if I output the footage in anamorphic 4:3, a DVD player hooked up to a 16:9 TV should be able to recognize that it needs to be stretched, and compensate appropriately...a) is that true? b) what happens if you play this same theoretical anamorphic 4:3 DVD on a 4:3 television? is it letterboxed automatically by the DVD player or does it look stretched and distorted?

On the DVD side, I'll assume that you will be using DVD Studio Pro.

Once your video is in there add it to the timeline in the track section. Once there, click on the track which will now be present in the contents box outline section.

When you do this the track inspector will show up. Go to the display drop down menu and choose mode-16:9 letterbox. You will now have a DVD that will adjust to a 16:9 tv correctly and also disply correctly with bars on a 4:3 TV. This all depends on whether the DVD player is set up correctly which is never a given.
