I've never really understood what 24P means in filming what is it? I've googled it but still i can't find the information i want. can anyone help me?

thanks

Thank you David!

I'm recording a wedding in December (not long) but what do you think would be the best quality to film in?

I would have to disagree very slightly. It is a question of quality if you are creating a 24p DVD. You will have the same data rate ie 7Mbps dedicated to less Fps. But this only comes into play if you would have had to lower your bitrate because you are trying to fit a lot onto a DVD. Its also better for web compression. If you are going to be doing slow motion however than you will technically have more quality working with 60i.

For the most part, I agree that 24p is mostly a stylist choice in regards to something like a wedding video. 24p will make it look more filmic. 60i will make it look more "live," like a TV reality show or every other wedding video.

As a filmophile, I would probably opt for 24p for my own wedding video (not available at the time I got married unfortunately). But it might throw others off a bit.

I'd discuss it with the couple you plan on filming.

I would defenitly shoot a specific frame rate based on your stylistic needs not quality (with the exception of web since its all progressive anyway)

I decided to go 30p for my wedding because I think 24p might be a little to sensitive during a live event for fast camera movement. Also if you intend on doing slow motion 30p is better than 24p. You can however shoot in 24p and choose specific shots during the wedding that you know you will want to slow down (such as an intro) and shoot these shots in 30p, this way you can drop them in your 24p timeline for a true 20% slowdown.

Something also to consider is that the default shutter speed for 24p is 1/48, 30p is 1/30, and 60i is 1/60 meaning if you are shooting in low light 30p will work best but this is a stylistic choice as well.

whats the different between 24P to the 30P in the movements then? 24P is less frame rates isn't it so it would be more joggy?

(I'm still learning sorry)

ps, thanks for ur help

24p will be more jittery and 60i will be the smoothest but they are all acceptable frame rates. If you go below 15 you will start to notice the individual frames and won't percieve it as actual motion. Film is shot at 24 frames a second so if you want it to look more like film then shoot it at 24p but there are limitations. you can't just handle a film camera like stanard video camera.

thanks dude, i'm going out for a test run if its nice tomorrow so i'll try and figure out which would be the best for it.

I have made an introduction to my wedding video as i want to get as much done as i can so i can mainly focus on the wedding. would you like to see it???

before you watch this video, please bear in mind that this is my first attempt at a film look video. also, the quality isn't the greatest due to the address i uploaded it to

I'm filming for my dad's friends wedding in December and I'm just in the process of making a few minuets dramatic introduction just for the build up of it all.

One last thing, I'm only messing around with some of my footages so it would be nice if i could have some of your opinions to make it look better.

thank you very much

martin

Good Start. My suggestions are as follows:

- To achieve a film look you don't have to throw in film scratches and exposure adjustments as if the projector bulb isn't consistent (I forget what this is called) it can be ok at times and is for the most part in your case but be careful not to overdue it. It can look cheesy.

-During the titling throw in some scaled down frames of the couple maybe with a blur or blending mode applied just so it won't look so cookie cutter and will look more personalized

- consider less dramatic music. Its good but maybe to familiar.

- replace the video footage with shots that are specific to the wedding such as flowers the hall empty ceremony area etc.

Good luck,
Ellliot

I think you should make it a bit less "epic." Personally I would tone the music down to something very peaceful and calming and scrap the tree leaves shot, at least slow it down, thats one thing you have to get used to when shooting 24p.

Very good looking though, oh yeah and use a tripod whenever you can.
