24p workaround

Here's what I'm thinking..

I've already shot a bunch of footage at 60i.
Now I've got the DVX100A and I'm off to shoot additional footage.
I use PREMIERE 1.5 to edit [and know about the issues mixing 24p and 60i on a 60i timeline.]

So could this work--->

shoot 24p

transfer to miniDV to DVCAM tape at dub facility

Import DVCAM [with 24p footage] into timeline through DVCAM deck

continue editing except now I have 24p look on 60i timeline

Does that make sense???

Thanks guys

You need to put standard 29.97 footage at the beginning on that tape somehow. Premiere doesn't care where the tape comes from, it actually looks at the way the frames are at the beginning. One cool way of getting 24P into a 29.97 timeline, is to shoot 24P dvx100A then rewind to the beginning and shoot some 29.97. Or import it into Premiere 6.5 or vegas and add some "black video" (29.97 timeline) for a few seconds to the beginning then render out a new 29.97 .avi file. OR work in Premiere Pro 1.

worked like a charm!!!!
thanks very much shadow24
color bars at 60i begining of tape
then free to shoot 24pn
nice workaround!

Thats a great workaround! But heres an issue, I have 80 tapes captured, mostly in 60i but there is quite a bit of 24 p in there too. Alot of this stuff is already on my timeline and worked on 6.5 before i made the switch.

so any suggestions on what is the quickest, easiest and most painless to convert the footage?
