24p to pal?

Hi all, I'm shooting an interview this afternoon that has to be output in pal format, I don't have a pal camera but I do have access to a converter.

So my question is, if your going to convert to pal, is it better to shoot in 24p or 30i? And is it going to look crappy either way? should I just bite the bullet and rent a pal camera even though I've never worked with one before?

Thanks

I don't know about the converter, if it is an analog converter or digital.

If you've never worked with a Pal camera before there's no difference in terms of functionality and handling. Also editing is done in 25P so, it is transparent for the user.
The most notable difference is in the file scenes 5 and 6. Instead of normal pulldown and advanced pulldown for the 24P you'll have two 25P modes with two different cine-like settings.

Now if you don't rent it, I've never done it but I'd be tempted to not use the 30i mode at all and shoot 24P and speed it up 4% to 25P with your NLE. The conversion will also have to add the missing pixels from 720*480 to 720*576 so the pixel quality will depend on the soft you use for that. You can test it with what you have at the moment and then make your choice.
