24P to PAL

Hi all,

I live in Asia and have been asked to shoot an interview... The problem is I have a NTSC DVX-100A and they are on the PAL system here. I read the forum and I understand that 24P is the way to go because it is closest to 25FPS, which means using the F5 setting. My questions are...

1. 24P or 24PA? Does it matter? I need 4:3 no letterbox for TV.
2. What settings for Vegas? I watched David's excellent video, so will edit on a 24P timeline, but what other settings?
3. How do I make it output for PAL? They need a final format in PAL Digibeta, are there settings that will output the final product in 25FPS with audiosync suitable for transfer to PAL Digibeta???

Thanks in advance for your advice...

Well, no. You're going to be editing in 24p, so your thought should be geared toward that. So, the rule is, if you're editing in 24p, shoot 24pA. (Not that it actually matters with Vegas; you can edit in 24p either way. But you should have that in mind always, because you might not always edit on Vegas, and not everything is so pliable.)

It doesn't matter what you plan your output to be -- if you plan to edit in 24p, shoot 24pA.

None, really.

You'll have to talk to the transfer house. I'd normally say to export as DV back to tape and have the transfer house transfer it to DigiBeta, but you won't be able to print PAL DV back to an NTSC DVX tape. So, they might be able to make the transfer from your 24p tape, but you'll have to be sure to figure out what they need, including which version of pulldown they'd need.

Or, perhaps they can transfer from a DV file (.avi), in which case, you can export from the timeline.

But you'll need to ask them.
