24p timeline problems

ok so i have edited plenty in final cut pro, i run it off of my dual 2 gig G5 with 4 gigs of ram. i finished shooting a short film, shot on my dvx100a in 24p, i started editing a very small amount on a 29.97 timeline before realizing my mistake. i restarted with the footage on a 24p timeline, but the footage looks, stripey (i guess thats the best way to define it, it has like a computerized wrinkle type look to some of the shots, do i need to rerender for 24p, what should all my settings be, etc etc...just all the tips anyone can think of, its my first time tackling 24p editing (just finished my first 24p shooting experience) help is much appreciated...thanks alot

Just to clarify a few things:

You created a new timeline set to 24P, correct?
You copied what you had in the old timeline and pasted it into the new timeline?
In the new timeline, does it want to render the footage?
You weren't bringing a nested sequence into your new timeline right?
The clips show a rate of 23.98 in the browser correct?

Steve

24p normal is what i shot at....
and correct for most of those things, although all those corrects isnt neccessarily correctly helping me...i read some other stuff, am i supposed to edit it on a 29.97 timeline, will i be able to tell the difference in the look on the other timeline.
it wants to render all the videos coming in to the 24p timeline...
thanks

Save a copy of your project. (as a backup) Try selecting the clips in the bin and using Tools -> Remove advanced pulldown. Check your timeline. I'm assuming you had a 23.98 timeline)
If not create one and drag the sequence over to it.

24p either needs to be edited in a 29.97 timeline (it will still retain it's 24fps look) or it needs to have pulldown removed (reverse telecine) in Cinema tools and then be placed in a 23.98 timeline.
You can't place 24p footage that has just been raw captured in a 23.98 timeline.

Does final Cut Pro 4.5 with the 2:3:3:2 settings automatically pulldown for 23.97 timeline?
We've had no problems visually so far but would hate to edit the whole movie to find out we've captured it wrong.

No, you have to configure both capture and sequence settings.
Setting the sequence does not force pulldown removal for capture since it could come from 24p or other sources as well as you may want to capture 29.97 for something else.

Are you using 4.5 or 5? Isn't the whole point of fcp 5 that you no longer need a pulldown for 24p footage? I thought this was the new innovation, that one can capture raw 24p footage with no tele cine or pulldowns?

Id like to know the answer to this one too. We're using Final Cut Pro 4.5 with 23.98 and 2:3:3:2 settings on our capture presets and settings and we've never had to go to CinemaTools.

Pulldown is always added by the DVX when filming at 24fps.
Pulldown is the same thing as telecine.
If you want to take 24fps footage from DVX and edit it at 23.98 then pulldown needs to be removed. (reverse telecine)
FCP 4.5 - 24pa can be done on the fly in FCP, 24p requires Cinema Tools
I don't have fcp 5 (working on a project now) but it seems from the info on their site cinema tools is still required for 24p.
