24p Sequence print to tape

Here's my problem,

I have footage shot at 24pA. I captured the footage using the 29.97 setting and checking the box which says to remove the 2:3:3:2 pulldown. My short is completed and works and looks great on DVD. I now need to print to tape (mini DV) to eventually get my finished product to Beta SP. The problem is when I print to tape, the tape only records audio. No video is recorded! If I close my 24p sequence and switch to a 29.97 timeline and record, it records with no problems. Can anyone help me with this problem?

It's possible your computer isn't fast enough.

Set playback prefs to add 2:3:2:3
Set View -> to output video to firewire and check to see if the video does in fact show up on your camera (in vcr mode) when playing back from timeline.
If that works try the Pritn to Tape and check the various options. You can turn on output colorbars to see if the video is coming out.

I did what you said and here is the outcome.
It shows up on my camera as a still image only. When I play my timeline the frame where I started my timeline is there and there is sound, but the image is not moving on the camera, only on the computer. What do you think this could be? Could my computer be too slow? Here is my setup: Powermac G4 1.3 dual processor with 1gig ram.

Thanks a lot
Chris

Make sure when you go to View -> External Video -> Display all frames
Set video and audio to output to Firewire.
Set canvas to 100%

I tried both the options and it still only shows still images. It's really weird because I can switch to a different project which is 29.97 and everything is fine.

I think I fixed the problem. I copied everything from my 24p sequence and pasted it to a 29.97 sequence. It seems to playback fine. Will this distort or will I lose quality if I print to tape this way?

FCP doesn't do the correct thing in going from 24->29.97 in the timeline. It's not adding 2;3 pulldown, it's duplicating frames as need be. Check with 2-pop.com if it's still not working.

I may have found a reason as to why this is happening. Looking at my footage 1/3 of the footage says 29.97, and the other footage says 23.98. It looks as though not all the footage was truly captured at 23.98. Do you know of a way to fix this?

Thanks
Chris

1. Was the footage actually shot 29.97 or one of the 24 modes?
2. if it was shot 24pa (F6) then select it in the bin and go to Tools -> Remove Advanced Pulldown
3. If it was shot 24p (F5) then use Cinema Tools to convert it to 23.98. Check help functions in Cinema Tools

If the footage was shot at 24pa, then when I go to tools ->Remove Advanced Pulldown, it says there's an error. This leads me to believe it was not shot at 24pa. I will try your idea with Cinema Tools. Will this effect my timeline in anyway?

Cinema Tools will convert 24p original footage to 23.98 that you add to your project and edit in 23.98 sequence.

Note that if it was shot 24p you could just capture normally (29.97) and edit in a 29.97 sequence. This will be fine unless you need to go to film or actually need a 24fps DVD.

Thanks a lot for your help. I believe my problem was. I had my sequence set to 24 and not 23.98, which is what it's supposed to be!
