24p rendering

Is there a reason why my 24p standard video had to be rendered as soon as I put it on my 29.97 timeline in FCP? Now that it is rendered, I have to re-render every edit. I have a 1.25 G4 with FCP 4.5, 1.5 gigs of memory, and a Lacie external using firewire 800.

Was your 24p captured at 29.97 NTSC, 48K audio?
If any settings of your clip don't exactrly match your sequence settings then it will require a render.

similar problem with rendering

I actually have a similar problem. I just signed on to edit a very short piece for someone, and the only way that i was able to even import the footage was by upgrading to fcp 5.0.4. I'm forced to render each clip that I place in the timeline, and if I move it just a frame over, I have to re-render it, which sometimes takes 10 minutes depending on the size of the clip. Can someone help me out please?

Thanks.

They're not the same fps. Control click your clip in the browser> scroll to "item properties"> and "format. Check the FPS on the clip, then do the same on the sequnce you're where you're trying to put the clip. Chance the sequnce to match the clip.

Okay. I tried what you suggested, but I'm a bit new to the scene, so I'm assuming that FPS = frames per second? So, when I went into item properties, I went to Frame Size to check the number. Long story short, the sizes in the browser match the sizes of the clips in the timeline, and the problem persists. Did I do that right?

Okay. Got it to work. thanks so much for the help. I also had to change the compressor rate, which I don't really understand but it's working and i'm just going to go with that.

thanks again.
