24p normal (29.97) in 23.98 sequence. Help!!

Hey guys,

Well, I have a question for all the 24p and fcp wizards out there. We shot the majority of a music video in 30p so that it could be slowed down in a 23.98 timeline. This worked great and looked cool. We had one problem, however. There were a couple shots that we wanted at 24p. The DP shot them in 24p normal, NOT with the advanced pulldown. This meant that when we captured it, we had footage that was running at 29.97 that had to be smoothly incorporated in to a 23.98 sequence. When I drop it in and render it the images look choppy and weird. Obviously we should have shot it differently, but does anyone have an idea how I can fix this mess? Would it be possible somehow to dub these shots to another tape running at 24PA and add the pulldow that way? Is there something I can do in After effects or FCP or cinema tools that will give me footage with smooth motion? Please help. If I have not explained the situation clearly enough I will be happy to elaborate. Thanks.

Use Cinema Tools to do a reverse telecine. This will convert it into pure 23.98 sequence. Do a search in Cinema Tools help for 24 for details

Thanks scott. That worked. I knew cinema tools would have something for me.
