24P: Make Your Digital Movies LIke Hollywood

I remember thumbing through that book but nothing struck me as being really informative. It seemed to cover basic lighting setups and didn't really dig deep into the art of making films and making shots. On the flipside...every book is sure to teach you something or at least reinforce a certain point or principle you should have drilled into your memory.

I'd actually recommend picking up Film Directing Shot by Shot: Visualizing from Concept to Screen. It's something I read a long time ago but in my head, it stands out amongst others. Perhaps you've already read it, if not, I suggest thumbing through it if you can find it at a bookstore. I think it'll have more substance than the '24p' book which seems to capitalize on the whole 24p phenomena. Some people think shooting 24p is the real meat to making something look 'filmic' when it's more like the starting point; behind frame, lighting, dof and so on. My 2 cents.

I think Geoff nailed it. If you are still having double thoughts, check out its reviews on Amazon (not bad, but not great either). In fact, you should check out amazon for any book before you buy it. Really informative.

I'd put "24p: Make Your..." along the lines of the "$30 Film School" book. It's not useless, but it doesn't have anything too special about it.

... however I can't say too much as both books are sitting on my bookshelf!
