24p in final cut pro

So I have an interlacing (i think) problem capturing 24p Normal footage from the DVX100 to final cut pro 5 (and also tried other versions of final cut). I tried DV NTSC to capture and edit in sequences, tried the 23.98 settings, and tried the pulldown option as well, but still I have an interlacing problem every few frames for all of the footage which, by the way, looks totally fine in the camera viewfinder and through an NTSC monitor. Tried the easy set-up.

Any experience with this problem? I can't be the only person who has experienced this.
Is there a way of dealing with this problem in FCP without having to resort to cine tools?
I know that works, but from other websites it appears as if I shouldn't have to use cinetools to solve.
Thank-you, I hope someone hears my sad story and can offer advice.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the following to be true:

24p normal footage is still 29.97. It's interlaced footage. It simulates a 24p look but it's nonetheless a 29.97 interlaced stream. So trying any kind of pulldown or cinetools actions are going to screw up the footage. It shouldn't be 23.98 because it's not true 24p footage. If you had shot 24p Advanced, then you'd do the pulldown and work with 23.98 footage.

Geoff's almost got it... it's a series of progressive AND interlaced frames. The interlaced frames are the ones you get by combining frames with the 3.2 cadence. You CAN get rid of this by sending your master clips into Cinema Tools and removing the cadence. VERY easy to do.

Other than the cadence... the only benifit (I SEE) is to shoot 24pA and let FCP remove it on the fly. Then you can decide if you want 3.2 cadence for broadcast or 2.3.3.2 for recapture to FCP later.

Then, just edit in 23.98.
