24p footage shot on xl2- capturing with dvx100 problems

ok. so I have read through most of the posts and haven't been able to find an answer.

I recently did a 2 camera shoot- one camera was a dvx100 and the other an XL2- I shot both at just regular 24p, 4:3. Now I am trying to capture all the footage in FCP 4.5 using the dvx100 as my vtr. ( the xl2 was a rental)

The problem I am having is that it's giving me the "problem with tape" error and aborting - ONLY when I try it with the XL2 tapes the dvx100 footage is capturing just fine.

Also, there doesn;t seem to be any pattern it just aborts it randomly and says it might be due to a problem with the tape.

I guess I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or if the xl2 footage needs a different setting? Or did I have the xl2 on the wrong setting..if so am I screwed?

If anyone has any suggestions or wants to tell me I m an idiot I would be very grateful... I'm getting a litte freaked out and I m trying to finish this project... THANKS.

I'm having the exact same problem. Shot some behind the scenes footage on a rented XL-1 and am now trying to capture via my DVX100a and it's aborting within seconds everytime. Capture works fine with everything I shot on the DVX. I'm eager to know if there's a work around here or if another XL-1 rental/deck purchase is in order. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Did you have timecode generator setup correctly in xl? Did you have time code breaks on the xl? (check the DVX dispaly (turn all on in menus) Do the numbers on the tape always go up and never return to 0?
If you do have breaks you'll need to set fcp to ignore timecode breaks.

I've got FCP set-up to ignore the timecode breaks, but I think it's something else as the capture process is not even getting a chance to run up until it encounters a timecode break. I'm capturing fine on tapes (out of the same box) that were shot on the DVX. When I put in one shot on the XL-1, it aborts before it's five seconds into the first shot. Anything else you can think of? Thanks.

This happened with my dvx100a. A trip to the manufacturer and some tape heads tune up and everything works fine now. Is a calibration problem on the tape mechanism, if I'm not mistaken.
