24p footage choppy in PPro CS3. Please Help! DVX100a

Okay.
I shoot my footage in 24p on the DVX100A.
I import the tape footage (on a different mini dv cam sony)
I import the footage with a standard program that comes with my Dell computer.
I then open premiere and import that footage (AVI file)
I then right click it from the project window and interpret footage as 16x9 because i am shooting with the anamorphic adapter.
i also interpret it as 29.37 fps or w.e (No 24v pulldown)

it skips every once in a while and looks choppy
the quality in program window isnt too great.

what am i doing wrong?
someone please help me with this. id really appreciate it.

try importing into a 29.97 project and then interepreting as 24 w/o pulldown

i've also had issues with 24fps in premiere so just play around with projects/interprets a little - you'll figure out what works for you

You shouldn't have to interpret anything. Open your footage in a 29.97 timeline and it will be 29.97. Open the same footage in a 23.976 timeline and it will be 23.976. Premiere will automatically handle the pulldown. For what you want to do, just use the NTSC DV widescreen preset.

Just out of curiosity, why are using a different program to capture instead of Premiere's capture utility?

Premiere's capture utility only works when taping live?

After i shoot what i want onto the DV tape, i transfer the tape to another dv cam and Import the tape footage i want onto my harddrive. Then i open premiere and Import it into the project window.

is this unproper procedure?

are you using Premiere's 24PA preset????
if you're gonna edit in either Premiere Pro 1.5 (or later) / FCP / Media Composser etc.
those programs are more compatible with 24PA which is F6 right out of the box.
so try to shoot 24PA.
can I ask why are you capturing with some other program and not Premiere?
when you open Premiere just hit F5 and capture (g).
and lastly are you on XP or Vista if you're on Vista there are a lot of known bugs with the whole CS3 suite.

unix.
