24p dvd in dvd architect

Ok i'm stressing out over this. I want to burn a dvd that plays in 24p (not 29.97) and if needed, the dvd player will add pulldown. I can't seem to find an option for 24 frames per second in dvd architect 5...how do i do this? I already have an exported 24p video file from vegas (no pulldown)

There's no option for it, because a DVD can carry video files of different frame rates (most Hollywood DVDs do just that -- movie in 24p; extras in 60i). As long as you created a DVD Architect-compliant 24p MPEG-2 file, it will be put on the disc as-is and it will be 24p.

In the older versions you could select a template for 24p versions of DVDs. This template no longer appears. So it gives the impression that you cannot create a 24p dvd.

My comment was in reference to not upgrading to DVDA5 on my machines.

I don't recall that older versions had a template -- like I said, there's really no such thing as a "24p DVD" -- what you really have is 24p files on a DVD. And each video file can be different.

What there IS, however, is a Recompress setting -- File>Optimize Disc>Video 1 -- where you can set a recompress frame rate. What THIS means is that if DVD Architect has to recompress any video, if you import video that's not DVDA-compliant, it will recompress it at that frame rate.

If you're exporting from Vegas with the DVD Architect 24p DVD template under MPEG-2, that's not a concern.

(But you might want to change it anyway.)

yea but the 24p dvd architect export template from vegas puts pulldown into the 24fps video, which results in a 60i stream, no? So when the dvd player plays it, does it remove the pulldown? I don't care how its done but I need 24 discrete frames per second on a dvd that can play on a dvd player.

No. It puts in pulldown FLAGS -- instructions for the DVD player to insert pulldown when it plays to a standard TV. But it's still a 24p file, not a 60i file.

Thank you for this bit of info! I know this is a really old post, but I've been struggling with 24p. Love how it shot, love how it looked in Vegas, but on my TV it sucked. Thanks guys!

Hmm when I compress for DVD architect in 24p and then import into DVD architect it ALWAYS tells me that I have to recompress the file to 29.97 when trying to burn the dvd. I've never figured out how to not do that.

Do you mean exporting from vegas for import into DVDA ?

You must have mismatched settings somewhere

Post your exact settings used for project, export, DVDA etc...

True, but if you're doing an all purpose HD master that can be used for BluRay or DVD, wouldn't those settings be nessecary? Or in my case when I was learning, I was rendering to H.264 for the web and wanted to toss on a DVD too.

You should render specifically for the purpose at hand. There's really no one-size-fits-all solution. If it's for critical delivery, then you should rendering from the project, from your original footage, to ensure highest quality.

But, if you DO render a "master" file, it should be to a high-quality, intra-frame format, or uncompressed. Blu-ray and H.264 are delivery formats; you need an editing format, because if you're going to make various other types of files from it, you need that "master" to be as robust as possible. It'll be a giant file, but it's what you need to do.

In any case, you wouldn't use that "master" file directly in DVD Architect. You'd use it in Vegas to render out a DVD Architect 24p format MPEG-2. Or in some other compression program to make a DVD-compliant 24p MPEG-2.

But however you do it, you need to make the MPEG-2 file separate from the audio file, which should be AC-3 or PCM. If the video and the audio are in the same file, DVD Architect will have to separate them, so that always means having to recompress. The DVD Architect templates in Vegas do not include audio, so you always have to render the audio separately.

Also, to be safe, under File>Optimize Disc/Video 1, change the frame rate to 23.976, so that if, for some reason, there IS any recompression, it will be recompressed to 24p instead of 29.97. This should make sure your menu screens are 24p, too.

In Vegas's output format pulldown menu it says "DVD architect 24p output". When I open the file in DVD architect it's fine but when I go to burn it to DVD it comes up with a box that has a "checklist" that says the video needs to be recompressed to 29.97. I've scoured the settings and found nowhere where I can change this.

Anyway, I haven't used it in a while. I'll give it a try and let you know the exact errors and procedure.

Thanks!

Change the frame rate under Optimize Disc, as I mentioned above, and see if that does the trick.

Chances are, it's looking to recompress your menu screen(s), especially if you have animated chapter buttons.
