I am trying to output a 24P DVD thru DVD studio pro. everytime we try to author it it converts back to interlaced 29.97.
anyone know the correct procedure to capture , edit and burn this type of DVD?
What settings do you need to do to end up with a progressive DVD?

did a search- but did not find what I was looking for.

Thanks

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

I just completed my first 24p DVD. I imported everything into FCP-HD using the advanced pull down removal option under log and capture. Edited in a 24p timeline and then exported through Compressor using the MPEG-2 encoder. It creates a seperate audio and video file and then I used A.Pack to compress the audio and make it 5.1 .

Capture settings:
NTSC w/ pull down removal(or you can capture standard NTSC and then do "reverse telecine" in Cinema Tools.

NTSC NDF (I was told this effects the cadence of the clips.)

As long as you have pre compressed MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio files to import into DVD studio Pro you should be fine. I am new at this myself but the above worked great for me... Hope this helps!

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

Thanks in advance

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

You shouldn't worry about this - I've heard DVDSP does this because it is preparing to add the flags to make it compatible with non-progressive set ups. It will still burn a 24p DVD - it just reports it as 29.97. Just go ahead and burn it and let us know how it looks.

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

Have you tried burning a disc? I haven't checked the FPS of the clips after importing them but everything works perfectly for me.

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

we burned a disc and darn it it looks interlaced....Can someone , who has captured, edited, and burned a progressive DVD please report his/her results and what settings they used to achieve this.

I know some of this is right on the edge so to speak, wherein we are all trying to figure this out....but somebody out there must have had some succeessful results by now

thanks in advance

How are you compressing it out of FCP? Are you using compressor? Make sure you use the 24p source material options.

SHM: I created a DVD in 24p without having any interlacing problems at all. My settings are listed above.

yes ...using compressor....probably missing something but this one has me baffled.....will try again on monday

Paul- have you checked your DVD after you burn it on a progressive player?....you should see a big difference between playing it progressive and then playing it interlaced....how does it look?

Thanks...I'll keep you posted on my progress

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

I have played it on 5 dvd players 2 of which are preogressive scan and it looks great!

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

:) yes we were able to do it...but we created a custom setting for DVDstudio pro to accept 24p....same thing for anamorphic and advanced pulldown removal......apple could make this whole process a little more user friendly

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

Now if I export my 24P project through Compressor will I be able to use idvd to burn the disc? iDVD is all I have right now. Also if I go through Compressor does that automatically make my project a SELF CONTAINED MOVIE FILE? Do I select self contained movie file first then export through compressor? Do I need to use Cinema Tools? I am all confused.

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

if you are using idvd, then export to quicktime and make sure "make movie self-contained" is unchecked. this will make a reference movie which you can either drag or import into idvd.

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

ok well that is how I have been burning my dvd's that way. I guess that is the only way I can do a 24p project without having DVD Studio Pro then.

Re: 24p DVD?? - HELP please

somebody on the APPLE board says he shoots all his work 24P advanced, edits in FCP with the pull down removed and burns his DVD's in iDVD. He went on to say that his stuff looks good. It might not be true 24P but he said it looked good.
