24p Conversion

Here's the situation- a friend shot a huge amount of material on a JVC-HD 100U. The camera was set for 24p. It has to be edited on iMovie HD, which doesn't support 24p. The filmmaker can get the footage into iMovie, but it plays fast. My only thought was to use Quicktime Pro to convert the video 29.97. He said he tried the conversion but it still runs fast. I don't know why this doesn't work (no 3:2 pulldown during the conversion in Quicktime?), but it doesn't. Searching the web hasn't come up with many answers.

Here are some questions-

1.) Should Quicktime Pro be able to do the conversion?

2.) Can the camera do the conversion? I've seen references on the web to the HD 100U being able to do 3:2 2:3 in its own software, but I think it might only present it as component or composite video, not digital. If it can do it on its own, what are the correct playback settings?

3.) Assuming the answer to both questions above is no, then what is the least expensive stand alone software that can do the conversion?

Thanks for any help or insights. I'm an old filmmaker (I'm talking celluloid film, from the dark ages), and I just don't know software.

One of DVFilm Maker's features is to take native 24p footage and add pullodwn to it. I think it's about $150.

Thanks, Joshua. I think I've got DV Filmmaker's web site bookmarked somewhere.
