24p capture

Please don't hate me for being stupid but, do I need to import my 24p footage at 29:97? I see you have to import the 24pA at 29:97, but 24p as well?
I impoted all my footage for my short at 23:97 and now I think I have to re-impot. True? Thanks.

Import both 24P and 24PA at 23.97, not 29.97. Meaning a 24 timeline, not a 30/60.

Well, you can use any timeline you want, but why use other than 24 for 24 footage?

By "import" do you mean "capture" from tape? All footage is captured as 29.97 regardless of the timeline. Doesn't matter what project settings are.

It will recognize 24p pulldown flags and remove the pulldown in a 24p project.

Yes, I meant capture. Is it true that it is recorded at 23:97 but is still on the tape at 29:97?

Yes. It is acquired at 24p but recorded to tape as 60i with pulldown. This is because there is no 24p in the DV spec.

Yes. What this means is that you can import your footage into a 24p timeline, and edit it as pure 24p. Or, you can import it into a 29.97 timeline, and edit it as 29.97. Vegas preserves both options, it doesn't make you choose one or the other. Either way you decide to work, the footage is ready.
