24P audio not syncable

This is a screen shot from my timeline.. the project is normal 29.97 with footage shot in 24P normal and pulldown applied.

I've taken the song used at the event and attempted to sync it with the recored audio. As you can see, it's synced up at the start but then looses sync soon after(at End).

Why is it doing this? Are there some settings I need to enable to allow the imported audio to sync up? I've tried switching the project setting to 24P progressive and there is no difference.

If the two audio streams were recorded with different devices it is likely that their internal clocks are different, therefore the total length is different.

Vegas has pretty good audio time adjustment capability, so you could try holding down the Ctrl key, then dragging the right edge of one of the audio events until it lines up with the other event.

If this ends up not sounding good, right click on the event that you adjusted, and click Properties. Then try different Time Stretch Attributes to see if you can find one that is acceptable.

One was recorded live obvisouly.. the other was an mp3 from the computer, the same mp3 that was played live at the event. Can it get that far off sync? Ther was almost 1 sec of difference in the area highlighted in my pic.

Yep, it can be that far off. The longer the material the futher off it can be at the end. Little differences add up over time.

I may have been imagining it, but I think I've even seen differences in length when comparing audio recorded at 44.1 and 48.

Yes, 44.1 time is different from 48k. Now a question, what Vegas does with the audio when pulldown is applied ? I mean, opening a 24P from DVX in a 24FPS project ?

Thanks,

In a 24p media file, the audio is still 48k so it is simply placed on the timeline at that rate. The DV codec separates the video and audio streams when it decodes the media file. Vegas then handles the streams in video and audio events.

Vegas will automatically convert bit rate and depth of input files to the output bit rate and depth. This allows you to mix 16bit 44.1k files, 24bit 48k files, 16bit 48k files, etc. on the timeline and render to whatever final format that you want.
