24p and final cut pro

Alright I'm making a project in final cut pro and its in 24p. When I edit it it just looks amazing. My settings are in easy setup: Advanced pulldown and I also capture as this. So my question then is how to I export and keep this quality? When I export to quicktime movie it looks very fuzzy and loses a lot of its quality. I've heard you need to use cinema tools but I'm wondering if there's another way? Anyways I know there's a way, I just wanna keep the quality I see when editing in final cut pro because it looks great. Any help would be great. Thanks.

How long is the final output?

File->Export->Using Quicktime Conversion.

Go to your SIZE settings tab, and make it Current, or Custom as to whatever ratio you desire to export as.

Don't worry about sound or filter.

Go to the top tab (I can't think of what it is right now, brain went out on me)
And then hit the drop down menu at the top inside that dialog box, and set it to H.264. Set the quality to high, or really close to high.

If you're going to web then this is the right exporting way to do it. If you're going to DVD, then export using Compressor.

H.264 and MP4 gives me the best results exporting out of FCP, make sure tho, if your going to be burning it to a DVD and your using DVD studio on studio one, it will not reconize The H.264 file, Im not sure if this problem has been solved in studio 2, but I know it is there in previous versions.

First of all, you're not capturing correctly. What are you shooting in, 24P normal, or 24P Advanced?

Secondly, there's an entire section in these forums dedicated to FCP. Scroll down a bit on the main page and you'll see it, and get answers more quickly.

I'm confused as to how you work with timelines where you might have different recording modes. What if a shot is in 24p, and another in 60i?

Are you going to the web?

Use my method - I like it a lot:

File - Export - QT Conversion

Change RECENT or DEFAULT pulldown menu to BROADBAND HIGH

Click OPTIONS and then change your size to reflect something you want... I shoot 16:9 so I choose 480x270.

Then export. Looks great to me.

Yeah the video is nice, but it's the titles that look really grainy and low resolution. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong during import from livetype to fcp? Any help would be awesome.

That isn't a problem. You're not supposed to go to h.264 if you're exporting to DVD. You are supposed to use MPEG-2.

But yes, in any situation, export using Compressor. Apple's got some great presets on there to get you on your way.

Yeah I have compressor but it always says there's a background error or something. I have yet to get this to work. Is there another way to go to mpeg2 ?

For some reason compressor says there's a background error and I have yet to get a project out of it. Is there another way to go to mpeg2

Usually that error means a reinstall of compressor... check apple's knowledgebase for the article on how... search compressor failure to connect to background

You can go to mpeg2 directly in DVDSP. Just import the exported reference movie directly in.

Alright thanks so much for all the helpful advice. I'm new to dvxuser and am really enjoying how easy it can be to find answers. I have only one last question which is kind of off topic. Let's say I wanna go to youtube. I want to have the best quality possible, but at the same time I want to compress a video that is about 7 minutes in length to fit the 100mb requirements. What is the best way to do this using fcp? Would I just use the quicktime conversion method the captain mentioned above or is there another way? Before fcp I would export from imovie HD into imovie 08 and then export under the youtube setting. I really love how little quality loss their was and was hoping to achieve the same thing in fcp. Any tips would be great.

P.S.- Currently compressor is messed up and I cannot go through that program.

I get fairly good quality in YouTube by going:

File - Export - QT Conversion...

Change the settings export to BROADBAND HIGH and then OPTIONS to set size. I do 16:9 so I choose 480x270.

Let it render out and then drop in Youtube just like that.

Here's an example:

Don't worry about aspect... youtube will handle it fine and letterbox on its own.
