24P and filmlike titles?

How do I go about (affordably!) creating and rendering titles in FCP or elsewhere so that I get the same 24P effect I do with footage I shoot with my DVX100 in 24P mode? (Plain 24P, I mean, not 24P ADV.)

Video titles look bad on top of and even before or after filmlike footage from a DVX100 with a Mini35.

Thanks!

I do all my titlework through After Effects, with which you can setup your timeline and renders as 24p files, then just plop them back into FCP.

Re: 24P and filmlike titles?

I remember using the motion blur settings in Final Cut to get some okay looking scrolls (something like 4-8 samples). Rendering took forever though.

You should have LiveType if you have FCP 4 and above. You can create your titltes in that. Note that DV will tend to compress the edges of type.

Re: 24P and filmlike titles?

I have received great results with livetype. Many people that have seen my work thought I used After Effects so that should tell you something right there. I do have AE here, just havent installed yet.

Not being an FCP user myself, I don't know what Live Type is. My editor upgraded to 4 (4.5HD, actually) relatively recently, and he's not familiar with it either.

Could one of you elaborate? Is it a separate titling module? And does it have a 24P option?

Thanks!

Yea if the editor installed ALL of the discs that came with FCP then you should have it on your system. You can do a lot of stuff with livetype. I just saw a nice big book in Border's bookstore today on Livetype. As for the 24P part, I don't think there is an option. I mean you can build your titles and or background textures in LT then export your movie then import that into FCP and it will play on a 29.97 or 23.98 timeline. You can check out www.livetypecentral.com for some more info.

Re: 24P and filmlike titles?

OK, but see, the thing is I have a regular 29.97 60i timeline, because I shot in 24P, not 24P ADV, and my destination is DVD and VHS.

The problem is that the titles we created in FCP look like video titles because they're rendered for standard video. I guess what I need to do is create titles at 24P and then put them through 3:2 pulldown, right? So would that require After Effects?
