24p and 60i on same timeline: What are my issues?

Aside from the difference in "feel" what is the biggest issue with mixing 24p footage with 60i, or any other frame rates and/or progressive vs interlaced footy. im currently working on a documentary in which i shot on a ex1 most at 1920x108060i and some clips at 1920x108024p. I'm also adding in my water clips which i shot on my sony SR-12 which shootin in 1920x108060i.

So 1.) What are the biggest issues in workflow mixing these formats?
2.) any recomendations on what I should do?
3.) Is this affecting my sequence upon sending it to compressor?

1. Nothing if they are the same frame rate. 24p is typically 29.97, as is 60i. 24p just has a film like 24fps cadence, but still runs at 29.97. If it is a form of 24p that you removed pulldown to get to 23.98, then you will have all SORTS of issues mixing those frame rates. Steppiness, strobing, lagging. Never wise to mix frame rates. But other than that, not much other than they will look different. I mix 24p and 60i...regular 24p. 60i for interviews and 24p for recreations.

2. if you have two different frame rates, you need to convert one to the other. Converting 23.98 to 29.97 is the better option.

3. No.

Thanks guys....I shot on native 24p on my ex1..which is 23.98 right?....how do i go about converting 23.98 to 29.97 in FCP?

You do that conversion in COMPRESSOR. And you need to go into the Inspector into the FRAME CONTROLS and turn all the options to BEST when you do. ANd this will take time, especially with Long GOP formats.
