ok i read that really decent whitepaper on 24p in vegas but i didn't see any mention of 24p vs. 24pa

what is the difference in vegas?

if i take footage i have shot in 24p will i get any benefit in quality or processing speed? or is it only 24pa?

one would assume that true 24p would be faster to process than 29.97 due to the reduction in amount of data needing to be manipulated.

Re: 24p and 24pa in vegas?

Vegas is just as happy with 24PN as it is with 24PA -- meaning, you'll be able to do true 24P editing regardless of whether you shot in 24PA or 24PN.

24PA can be reconstructed with no decompression cycle, whereas 24PN requires a decompression/frame reconstruction cycle.

24PA requires that decompression/recompression upon output to a 3:2 DV tape, but 24PN doesn't.

Yes, working in a 24P timeline can mean 20% less rendering, etc. But when going out to tape it all needs to be converted back to 60i, so you'll save in some places but lose during the final render... but it's no big deal, converting 24P to 60i is done on-the-fly in realtime in Vegas, assuming your system is fast enough.

Yup, or you can render to MPEG2 using the built-in DVD Architect 24p DVD template and say goodbye to 60I forever ;D

You also have quite a few other 24p options, including WMV, Quicktime, etc . . . if you don't want to go to DVD.
