24p Advanced back to NTSC in FCP

Hello all,

Pardon if this is a repeat, but it seems a critical question.

I have shot and edited a 24p (advanced) project in FCP 4.5

What is the best way to get a standard NTSC (29.97) Quicktime movie of this project?

It seems if I just drop it into a NTSC (29.97) timeline that I get a bit of a stuttering quality to the motion that is not there when I create a 24p DVD.

Any help will be most appreciated as will a spirited discussion.

You edited the footage but first digitized the footage using Advanced Pulldown Removal...then you edited in a 23.98 fps timeline? If you did that you are right so far...

I have never needed to go back to 29.97 Quicktime, and you should be able to work with the 23.98 with no problem..Why do you need to go to 29.97 anyway?

Good question Kyle.

I need to mix the film into a single timeline with other short films that are standard NTSC.

To answer the other question. Yes, Right so far.... Shot 24PA - captured with Advanced Pulldown Removal - Edited perfectly well in 23.98 timeline.

Re: 24p Advanced back to NTSC in FCP

I'm a total rookie, but I've logged about 60 hours in FCP HD this week on my first 24P project... big fun I know.

But beeing so new to all this has allowed me to kind of think out of the box a little, and again I'm reading this post wondering why you wouldn't just convert all the other NTSC to 24P using Cinema Tools (which is my new best friend) as I had to incorporate quite a bit of NTSC footage into my 24PA project.

Pretty sure you could Cinema Tools to conform your 24P stuff back to NTSC as well.

Good Luck and please let us know what you end up doing.

toddmcm,

I'm compiling films from several filmmakers and reconforming their films would change their work.

I really need to find the best way to get my 24pA timeline to an NTSC quicktime movie.

thanks,

Output it back to tape. The DVX always writes 29.97 to tape regardless of where the info comes from. It is the only language that theads speak. Then just recap it all in 29.97. Alos check this site www.dvfilm.com
I think they have a program. The 2-POP forum also has some good stuff on this topic.

J. Farina..if you do it that way I believe you are going to get a bunch of interlacing...maybe I am wrong but I am pretty sure it will either record 24pa back onto the tape putting the pulldown back into the footage or if it records as 24p back onto the tape than it will interlace itself..I am not positive and I may be speaking out of my ass..BARRY! JARRED! HUDSON!

J. Farina,

Yeah. that makes sense. I'll end up with a 2-3 pulldown movie on tape and then recap. I was hoping to do it all internally in the mac....

Still open to ideas.

I did it with DV Film Maker and the results were really good. Then, before going to DVD, I ran it through BitVice for MPEG coversion and took the sound through A.Pack. You can just use BitVice.
