IMDB isn't wrong, just misleading. Apparently the movie originated on DV but ended up on 35mm.

thanks jpbankesmercer. Hey, you should know; you're from Manchester! BTW, Coogan is a God, my favorite English comic behind Gervais (at the moment). isara, that this movie was shot on DV is an interesting bit of trivia, but it doesn't matter; the movie rocks. One of the best biopics in a long time.
