24" Dell Monitor Questions...

I'm thinkink about the Dell as a studio monitor. Though I can't seem to find my answers scattered out in the forum.

I know it's great for 1080 stuff, but what about for 720p? How good is it at upscaling the image? The majority of my projects will be in 720p due to the framerate option and I just want to be sure I get the right gear...budget minded of course.

I can only afford to spend about 5k more on equpment. I alread have the camera and one 4gig card. Still need a monitor, mattebox, rails, grips and focus/zoom controlls...probably from bebob.

Also, what would be the best case for the Dell monitor?

i don't believe the Dell will upscale it .. it just uses 1280x720 pixels of the 1920x1200 pixels..

So then the 720p will just show up in the center with black all around it? I was kinda hopingfor that. Pixel for pixel would be great. Anyone know this for sure?

sorry i dont know for sure but i LOVE mine! theres been a few posts on this model actually on the forum. myself, jarred, and barry_s i know for sure own it.

I have a 2405, but not an HVX (yet..). However, composite/s-video inputs allow you to switch between 3 modes: full screen (stretched as necessary), "Aspect" (filling the screen as much as possible without stretching), and "1:1" (unscaled image in the center). I believe it will do the same for HD component input, but can't test it (yet...)

it scales, if you hook it up to a computer, be sure to adjust the gamma - it is usually way too bright/gamma to high.
