Career: Sell off old gear, replace with new gear expected to last next 24 mos. Shoot feature. Work with/learn from talented professionals. Cultivate and keep excellent crew and carry team onto bigger projects.
Personal: Figure that out as I go.

Career: Get the ball rolling on a million dollar plus genre picture with pre-sales, debt financing, stars attached the whole shebang. And begin a truly self-sustaining career as a filmmaker.
Personal: Direct at least one, preferably two more feature-length genre pictures this year (at any budget level).

Career: Associate Producing/Posting/Marketing a feature-film shooting Feb with hopes of completion by years end with another shooting in the fall and hopes to finish Spring 2013 both with hopeful sales in 2013. Close rental DVD deal with my first film, get the TV airing started in the Spring, and keep normal DVD sales going.

Personal: Get out of consumer debt, save a down payment on a house, and be a good father to my newborn son who's due to arrive any minute now (not even kidding, been up for like 21 hours and my wife is in the thick of it at the moment with the midwife).

Career and personal are kinda together for me -- Build the 'Film Lab' part of our Arts Coalition group. Bring in some really nice gear, set up good administration, and attract talent. Expand our nascent little festival to three screens, bring in features and doco projects. Grow our community, try to keep it cool.

Find a staff position in compression, encoding, or a post production house, then proceed to kill off student loans. After enough money has been saved, consider options for personal projects. Freely, I'd like to consider writing a series of web sketches, move forward on a book I've had in mind for nearly two years, and finish a short film script I started about a month ago.

Sweet thread.

Personal:
Finish post on our feature Hills Green by mid February. Submit to fests.
Begin work on our next two feature films. One genre, one drama.

Professional:
Leave the 9 to 5 world behind.

Congratulations on your son!!!

Hey Hunter, thanks for starting this thread. It really got me thinking.

• Professional: Finish special effects and editing for a music video, and shoot a fixed media version of a video performance piece I did in September, then start entering both of them in festivals. My goal: to get into at least one festival.

Keep learning about GLSL programming using Jitter, so I can make the most of my graphics card in performance.

STOP buying equipment, and start FINISHING work.

• Personal: work off some of this middle-age waist expansion, support my daughter through college, have fun with my new girlfriend.

Professional - increase emphasis on writing, complete two pitch projects that have languished for the last three years, get up to speed on Rhino, land a desk either on Ender's Game or on Oblivion

Personal - Maintain training progress, improve boxing performance, make any sort of measurable headway learning French

Learn and love Premiere...get a few more clients to go with my wonderful current ones....shoot a lot more...finish all the damn projects sitting on hard drives below my desk...find a funder for the one project that would be great to see finish, but lacks the final mile...complete the write of the script I'm co-writing, and get it into pre-production...Finish my long standing short film on my short poem...learn all my camera's settings...and have fun while doing all these things...

It's been a wonderful two years I've been hard at this latest leg of the journey, learned a ton, gotten some wonderful work done on a small local scale, and feel ready for a significant change to much more professional work in the next 12 months. Hope you all are having fun at this also. Best of luck on all your projects.

Professional: Complete 2 huge projects already on the books by June. Pick up a few more TVCM clients. Finish tsunami doco (In Japan as I type having just met some people for progress / story follow ups.) - goal to complete it and raise $50k on showings for people of Rikuzentakata city. Shoot feature inspired by same events - think Wes Andersen style - so not all serious.

Personal - spend more time with people I care most about.

At my current turning point, decide the direction of my Company, and career. I have two paths i can choose from. The one that looks "right" and the one that feels "right". They both are awesome, but one will make me more money faster, but the other will make me happy....

Decisions. Decisions.....

Career: excel in my new job and exceed the expectations of my superiors, befriend and collaborate with my peers and gain their trust, hone my lighting skills and translate the high image of quality in film and television to the web.

Personal: find a girl who makes me happy, be more sociable and less judgmental.

Personal: Find my first feature narrative film. I turned down three feature films this year. Waiting for the one that is right for me... sometimes I feel I might be making a mistake, but then again...

Now I'm not Vittorio Storaro... but he said something later, after Gordon Willis:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq1DQdIEYAg&t=6m57s

(After turning down the film) "And this was wonderful, and I was Vittorio Storaro then, on my first film"

I want to be Ryan O'Hara on my first film. And I don't mean that in a cocky douche way. Thus far, the offers I have received have not allowed me to do the job to the ability I would be at least somewhat satisfied with (since I'm never really satisfied with my work.) So I turned them down. I'm waiting for the right film. So my goal in 2012 is the same as 2011... but I'm waiting for a film where I feel I'll be able to do my job. Then I'll put my name on it. That may sound picky, but let me buy you a beer and tell you what I was being offered to work with, in terms of equipment, crew and time. I'll give you a hint... none of each.

Personal: Get laid more. :)
Oh! ......agus críochnaigh ag foghlaim Gaeilge. (and finish learning Irish!)
