2000 lightning strikes!

If there is one thing that scares the bejeezus outta me, its lightning. There is a storm creeping my way that has produced over 2000 strikes in just one hour. :undecided I sat for half an hour lastnight with a ballcap pulled down over my eyelids with a blanket draped over my head. And I didnt care who knew it, either.

I hate lightning. *sigh*

Hey Terry!

Yeah, lightning jars me a little too. I was walking to my car, Not afraid of lightning like most people...Just as I go to my car lighting struck the tree next to me...like 4 feet away...I was deaf for like 4 seconds...I jumped in and just sat there...I couldn't move...until my hearing came back.

Now I walk a little quicker...

Hi Phil! Glad to see you're active on the forum again. :)

I've never been that close to a lightning strike, but I've seen a few tornados up close and personal - closest was approx 100 yards away.

Hmmm, I just got a weird feeling because I was already thinking about War of the Worlds and then I notice the signature line ends with: "...and want 2000 of something."

Coincidence? I don't think so :)

We are STILL finding things blown out by our lightening strike a few months ago! Last week we found out one of our ceiling fans was blown ... but we had to wait for the hurricane to pass before we could get it fixed!

UNPLUG EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! Then hide under the blankets, like me!

If you could see outside my window...There's clouds that have stayed lit up for 5 minutes filled with lightning...it hasn't stopped...

You guys are joking about War of the Worlds...but if you could see this...

(just for the record...I'm making that really high pitched screaming noise Dakota Fanning makes in the van) heh

Yeah, I went all pioneer-like, unplugged everything, no juice going to anything I hold dear. I dont like this kind of weather. The thunder rolled for, I swear, close to 45 seconds at a time...just on top of each other. And the lightning was red at times, when my eyes peeped open to gauge the "how close am I to dying" meter.

The weathermen on tv do nothing to help me feel better, when even they are saying crap like "Check this out! An unbelievable 2,000 lightning strikes in just under an hour! You people out there, take precautions, as some of this could be dangerous." And my new place is nothing but windows, floor to ceiling windows in every room. I'll have to settle for the fetal position in the bathroom, I guess.

Hey Thartley, You should add to your signature:
"I like rice. Rice is great if you're hungry and want 2,000 of something."---Mitch Hedberg
"I hate lightning. Lightning sucks even more when there's 2,000 lightning strikes."---Phil

:) You don't have to though...heh :)

Terri, if your new place is still in Florida, all I can say is: 'The next time you are moving, make sure it's somewhere other than the thunderstorm capital of North America.'

I love thunderstorms, but I feel sympathy. Hope you are safe.

the lightning was red? awesome.

a couple fun lightning facts:

--a lightning bolt can strike up to 10 miles away from its place of origin. it's possible to be struck by lightning with clear skies overhead!

--lightning can travel through windows. so shoot it with caution.

Coffee-I live in North Florida... as Jerry so aptly put it, the thunderstorm capital of North America. haha!!

Yes, red lightning, and HAIL. Closest thing to snow I've ever seen. haha!!!! I was driving home from work one day last year during hurricane season and there were tornado warnings all over town. I'm listening to the radio, thinking I am in a scene of Twister, expecting to see the freakin twins dancing toward me over the pines....stuck in traffic and scared as hell. I was only opening my eyes for a flash, then closing them to the count of five. Then repeat. Just when I thought it couldnt get worse, chunks of ice started pelting my car. I thought my windshield was going to shatter. Did I mention the lightning?? I hate lightning. Makes me feel like one of those ducks at the carnival that you shoot at, and you hope like hell whoever is doing the shooting is a really bad shot.
