20 foot high light stand?

Hey everyone. I need do a scene that takes place in a bedroom at night where the main character wakes up from a dream. The bedroom has two windows. One that looks out onto my deck and another window that is about 15 feet above the ground. Obviously, I can place a light outside the window that looks onto the deck, no problem. But, for the other window that is 15 feet above the ground, does anyone know of any light stands that extend to say 20 feet so I can light the outside of that window? My light stands only extend to 7 feet high. Thanks.

How much you willing to spend? I use Avenger 13ft, but they make up to like 21ft, for less than $400...

Buy or rent... :D

My Matthews Mombo Combo stand goes up 24ft. But if you use something like that, be SURE to anchor it properly and secure the light with safety chain. A light falling from that height can kill someone.

Thanks for the helpful input guys. I went out and remeasured the height from the bottom of the window to the ground and it looks like its only 10 feet, not 15. So, I'm thinking this 13 foot light stand I saw on Adorama for $50.00 will do the job. That way I have three feet above the bottom of the window to work with, in terms of lighting.

PerroneFord, in terms of a safety chain, would it be possible to use rope wrapped around the top of the light stand and fastened to a hook on my porch? Thanks.

I think you really just need some sandbags on it and just tie it down to three points if you're going full stick on it. Especially with that stand, as it's not the beefiest.

What I would be careful about is just that you have a level surface for your stand. The higher you go, the more pronounced the tilt becomes and the more unstable your stand becomes. It's easiest if your stand just has a rocky mountain leg, as then you can just adjust that as necessary. Otherwise I'd just throw some cribbing underneath one or two of the legs to make it level.

What kind of light are you using anyways?

A hi-hi roller will get you there or just go to your local construction rental place and rent three sections of scaffolding for the day. If I were going this high that is what I would do. BTW I own hi hi rollers and combos, I also own scaffolding and the scaffolding is the safest and cheapest way for you to accomplish this.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll just get the 13' light stand and use sandbags on the legs to help stabilize it. The light I'll be using on it is a QL-1000 quartz light with a 1000 watt bulb.

That is one massive light stand!
